ABOUT US

The Department of Mining Engineering in the College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University was reinstated in the year 1987. This is the only reputed and Govt administered Mining Engineering Department exists for more than 30 years catering to the needs of over 400 Mines located in the southern states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pondicherry. It is in the long line of industry-oriented education centres with commitment to meet the ever growing need of high quality mining engineers. After the developed country like China and Korea, the Department of Mining Engineering, Anna University is only the Centre equipped with the state-art-of research laboratory sponsored by NIOT, Chennai for the development of Deep Sea Mining Technology.

The Department has been actively involved in various research and development programmes and offers consultancy services to various industries in and around Tamil Nadu. The Department offers undergraduate, doctoral research facilities on a full time as well as part time basis. The curriculum and syllabi are updated frequently to keep abreast with the new technology and changing needs of the industry. The students acquire a firm foundation on engineering sciences and are well equipped to meet the challenges of the modern world.

VISION

To unveil the leadership qualities in students of Mining Engineering and impart knowledge of latest trends in Mining and related industries to meet the present and future requirements of the Industry embracing sustainability of the environment in order to produce well communicative socially responsible and ethical mining engineers. To inculcate the habit of continuous learning, working in groups, safety at work etc. for the overall development of the society in general, Mining and related industries in particular adopting ethical means of profession.

  • To promote active participation of students in sports activities for physical and mental fitness.
